Our Story
Willamette Woodworks is a family owned and operated business located on the outskirts of Atlanta in Marietta, GA. It derived it's namesake from the Willamette Valley region of Oregon where Robert was born. This is also where Robert's Granddad lived, whom instilled in him the love and desire for making mountains of sawdust while imagining and creating from wood.
Some of Robert's most cherished memories while growing up come from time spent in his Granddad's garage in Portland. It was here where together, along with his dad, he created wooden swords, toy ships and planes and learned to whittle, carve, burn and stain wood. However, the best part of the day came when it was time to clean up and Robert would watch as the sawdust dunes were erased by the vacuum, and it was time to go sit in front of the wood burning stove and play with the day's creations.
This bond with trees and nature and wood persevered and grew over time, leading way to a rediscovered joy in creating things with his hands many years later. Many of the tools used in that shop as a child are still used today, bringing with them the spirit of his Granddad, Wes Hayes.
Over time, a hobby which existed solely to provide gifts to friends and family has expanded in an effort to share this passion for the beauty that can be found in the medium of wood. We are always looking for opportunities to extend the life of a tree be it by salvaging cut or fallen trees destined to rot or turned into mulch or re-purposing pallet wood and other reclaimed lumber. It is our goal to give everyone the opportunity to appreciate this elegance through creations that can be used and appreciated every day. Each handcrafted piece is created with an attention to detail that will allow them to last for the enjoyment of generations to come.
Robert is supported in this endeavor by his wife Brittany, 3 sons, daughter and the best shop dogs a man could have!
